Joseph emigrated from Wooburn in Buckinghamshire, the son of a Farmer and land owner who when he died left the land to his eldest son and not Joseph. However, Joseph had learnt to raise cattle and butcher them, so he took his small inheritance and set out with his young family for Ohio. He didn’t get past New Jersey but he did have a very succesful Droving and Butchery business.
