Employed in Leighton Buzzard as a Basket Maker before the war , Edward was enlisted in the Royal Engineers to continue this trade. This photograph shows basket cases for shells being made by civilians in Goldaming Surrey C1914. Far from looking like industrial weapons manufacturing production this rather looks like a family pastime in the back garden!

In 1914 when Edward enlisted with the Royal engineers he gives 10 Plantation Rd leighton Buzzard. He reurns to this address in 1919 and in 1939 whilst he is in Hospital his wife Lily is at 10 Plantation Rd.
