1881 Old Vicarage Chilton – By 1881 Amelia age 12 was living here with Mother (abandoned)and siblings. Clearly a very large and impressive home now, it was judging by the census return in 1881 split into accomodation for several families (like a poorhouse).Marriage Certificate Henry George and Amelia EdwardsGeorge Blinko was a labourer then coachman and in 1888-1899 was with the Royal Artillery intially full-time then on Reserve. He died in 1911 leaving Amelia to look after 6 children.In early 1890’s the Blincoe’s were housed in company cottages that were built in what was then called the New Row but later became The Crescent Bardon Hill . Son George Harry Blinko and Daughter Martha Jane Blinko were born No 38 The Crescent in 1894 and 1896 respectively. Frederick William 1898 father Frederick William seniorvwas living next door to his brother and working at the Bardon Hill Granite Quarry. From Ken Blinko”The two photos attached (above and below) are of Amelia and Henry’s house in Windsor End. I had to scan them from an old book so the quality isn’t too good. The first one is dated 1905 and the second is some years later after the cottages had been renovated, regrettably,
all the houses on the left-hand side were demolished in 1956 to make way for road widening, which seems a bit screwball now since the road is a dead-end after the motorway was built. It is interesting to study the Census record and since the cottages and the house opposite called Little Hall Barn were the last houses in Windsor End I assume the enumerator worked down the left-hand side and then back up the right, this would have put Henry’s house as the third cottage from the bottom end.”

Mrs James Oxlade (Amelia Edwards) and her sister Mrs Tom Fuller (Mary Edwards)1913 married James Oxlade and thereon lived in Totteridge at Rose Villa and onwards Amelia lived Shot looking up Totteridge Lane with the roof of Rose Villa at the top of the lane . After 1913 the Blinko children went with their mother to live with James Oxlade at Rose Villa, Totteridge Lane. The Dolphin PH on Totteridge Lane about 1905 Records show James Oxlade first moved to Totteridge Lane to nearby Wood View some time before 1901 census and may have moved to Rose Villa prior to marrying Amelia in 1913.
I can still as an old man remember my Great Grandmother Oxlade an imposing woman despite her diminutive size. A Victorian who told me of attending Queen Victoria’s Funeral in Windsor. In this wedding photograph of grandson Reginald Blinko, four generations are represented. Amelia age 83 years, son Harry behind here and grandson George and of course me.
