Alec Mark Blinko 1903-1942

Alec was born on 30 Oct 1903 in Windsor End, Beaconsfield

From Ken Blinko”The two photos attached (above and below) are of Amelia and Henry’s house in Windsor End. I had to scan them from an old book so the quality isn’t too good. The first one is dated 1905 and the second is some years later after the cottages had been renovated, regretably all the houses on the left hand side were demolished in 1956 to make way for road widening, which seems a bit screwball now since the road is a dead-end after the motorway was built. It is interesting to study the Census record and since the cottages and the house opposite called Little Hall Barn were the last houses in Windsor End I assume the enumerator worked down the left hand side and then back up the right , this would have put Henry’s house as the third cottage from the bottom end.”

After 1913 the Blinko children went with their mother to live with James Oxlade at Rose Villa, Totteridge Lane.

Meanwhile, wife to be Alice Lettia West was born 1910 in Cheriton, Kent.

Alice Lettia was born in a suburb of Folkestone Cheriton. This 1919 OS map shows that it was very close to the Shornecliffe Army Camp This is where Alec was posted before WW2
Marriage in 1925 in Kent

Happier Times. From son George Blinko: “Dad is the young looking chap stood next to the trooper holding the sword he is holding a small dog.”

Between the wars Alec sends this photo of a Black Platoon in training at Birkenhead. The Battalion isnt identified but the back of the postcard indicates Alec had a least one pal in the Platoon
