I don’t know when this photo was taken but know that my mum was on this holiday aged about 5 so photo was probably taken in about 1934/5. Ellen would have been about 38, Elsie would have been about 36 and Sarah would have been about 34. All those in the family still alive today say that Sarah (known as Aunty Louie) was the prettiest of the 5 and the cleverest!! In the presence of John Thomas Figg occupier Cause of Death Pulmonary Tuberculousis and Exhaustion Notes: far right In No. 453 Col 2 for ‘Saunders’ read ‘Wells otherwise Saunders’ and in Col 5 for ‘Widow of Joseph Saunders a General Labourer’ read ‘Wife of William Wells a Stone Quarryman’. Corrected on the 1st June 1917, by Arthur Bone registrar on the authority of a satisfactory validation made by Thomas Figg and William Wells 1915 Military Records John Thomas FIGG 1) The dependant’s name shown as Amelia Kate Saunders commonly known as Amelia Kate Figg. There are no particulars of marriage. (2) Children are shown as Louisa —- Saunders; John Thomas (!) Saunders born July 17 1909 Kingston (!); Leonard Saunders born July ? 1912 Watford. (See my observations below) (3) Figg’s discharge is July 1915 (other documents show that this was due to myopia for which there appeared to be no possible correction).
