Drayman -Leighton Buzzard C1867-1921
For more than 50 years George Blinco was an employee of Brewery owners
in Leighton Buzzard and even at age 71 he was listed as a Drayman.
George died at Bassett Road, age 82 yrs in 1921.
At this time he was the horse keeper at the brewery, obviously now too
weak to lift barrels of beer!
Who employed George for the 50 plus years? We can only speculate, but
using the historical records of the Bedfordshire County Council we can
see a couple of likely situations.
From the history, it appears George would most likely have been employed
by the Procter family in earlier years as they had Brewery and Public
House interests in Leighton Buzzard at Saint George and Dragon Public House
and The Boot Public House both breweries in that period. Aylesbury Brewing Company (ABC).
George possibly worked later on for the ABC in Leighton Buzzard as they owned several PH’s in there early 1900s. Edwin Blinco younger brother to George followed him to Leighton Buzzard and was also a Drayman there around 1875, he moved on through to work as a Brewery drayman at Berkhampstead and then the ABC at Walton St in Aylesbury until his death in 1919.

Note 2. From Derek Wheatley
“I’m not sure whether or not I sent you details of Jonah Blincoe’s wife
at some time. If I did, I would have said that she was Mary Ann
Hitchins. It has now come to light that the surname should have been
HITCHMAN. The error arose in a transcription at Ancestry.com – a Mary
Ann Hitchins was married in the same quarter of 1870 but not at Thame
R.D. whereas Mary Ann Hitchman was!
She was born in Moreton-in-Marsh c.1849; her parents were James
Hitchman (c.1799 Moreton-i-M) and Charlotte -?- (c.1806 also
Moreton-i-M) – information from 1851 Census.

“Hi again
……………I think this solves the problem, Frederick Moreton with wife Emma age 35 born Long Crendon, and further checking showed them with their family in both 1881 and 1901, Emma’s age being 26 and 46 respectively and both showing Long Crendon as her birthplace. Their first child, Albert, was born c.1874 which ties-in with the 1873
marriage. I’ve attached images of the three Census pages which show quite a
number of children and open up a whole new line of investigation.
Al the best
