Background to the Long Crendon connection and the gradual change to the BLINKO surname.

The move to Long Crendon from Stoke Lyne was probably initiated by John BLINCOW [1603] b. 1788 Bicester, his mother Mary BLINCOW (Walker) originated from Shabbington very close to Long Crendon and its worth speculating that some family local knowledge and a probable need to find work drove John and family to move there. John and his spouse Mary (Walsbey) had a son William born 1820 in Long Crendon and so we can assume that the family moved prior to that date but after the birth of daughter Jane BLINCOW in 1816.
The name BLINCOW being interpreted many ways through census enumerators over the next 80 years until it finally settled on BLINCOE or BLINKO or BLINCO. The earlier census favouring BLINKA (1841), then BLINKER followed by BLINCO or BLINCOE until in 1869 probably for the first time Henry George’s birth was registered BLINKO and in 1871 Mark BLINKO and family was recorded in the census as BLINKO. BLINCOE and BLINKO eventually became the favoured spelling for Henry George and descendants.
