Thomas enlisted as a private at Placerville, El Dorado County, California, September 15 and mustered in September 25, 1861, in Company I, Second Regiment of Cavalry, California Volunteers. At enlistment Thomas stated he was born at Fayette County, Kentucky, and he was age 29 years. His enlistment contract described him as him being 5 feet 9½ inches, with Dark complexion, Black eyes and hair. He re-enlisted at Benicia Barracks, Solano County, California, March 1, 1864. Thomas was promoted Quartermaster Sergeant June 6, 1865, and was discharged at Sacramento, Sacramento, California, June 24, 1866. (CMSR, NARA; Orton, p. 268) Thomas, age 16 years, was enumerated at Fayette County, Kentucky, with Benjamin C. Blincoe 41, Lydia B. Blincoe 37, James D. Blincoe 14, Benjamin Blincoe 12, Martha F. Blincoe 10, Sarah E. Blincoe 8. Thomas, age 36 years, was enumerated at Salt Point, Sonoma County, California, in the 1870 census with Amilda J. 24. Thomas, age 48 years, was enumerated at Visalia, Tulare County, California, in the 1880 census with Josephine Blincoe 34, Lydia Blincoe 15, Benjamin (Daniel) Blincoe 13 (3 May 1866-10 Aug 1953), Thomas Blincoe 11, Mary Blincoe 8, Lillie Blincoe 6, Oscar Blincoe 3, Virginia Blincoe 2 months. Thomas registered to vote at Sonoma County during 1867 and 1887, and in Tulare County during 1875, 1878, 1884, 1890, 1892. A daughter was born at Visalia, Tulare County, to the wife of Thomas H.
