Version 1
The American Blencowes who served in the Civil War took part in the USA’s most bloodiest and saddest war . The graphic below underling the carnage of this war.
To underline this tragedy, families were to fight each other and as the pages will show the Blencowe family was no exception to this as they fought on both sides. A great deal of the Blencowe men have the surname spelling Blincoe and descend from James Blincoe (1650-1699) who emigrated from England and settled in Virginia to become a Tobacco Planter. However, there are other for instance sons of immigrant John Blencowe from Gawcott,Buckinghamshire in England (arrived USA in 1836) were to serve on the union side.
This research is ongoing and so this first page as an index that gives access to some basic data that’s been collected by Don Blincoe(1930-2000), then added to by Daphne Austin and Roger Blinko.
