Timeline Report: Blencowe Emigrations (1800–1899)
Introduction.
Apart from James Blincoe, who emigrated in the 17th Century to the Virginia Colony, and some reported movements of Blencowe’s outside the United Kingdom in the 17th and 18th Centuries, it is not until 1830and 1831 that we have records that firmly establish other Blencowe families settling abroad.
In 1831 Robert Blencowe a Cordwainer from Banbury emigrated to Virginia, and very quickly joined the United States, Marines after his service he returned to his of shoemaker and married and settled in Masschuechetts.
In 1831, John Blencowe was employed by the Van Diemen’s Land Company and subsequently, his family and he travelled to the Australia to take up residence. The 19th Century is then the starting point of emigration for Blencowe’s of all classes. Some had no choice; convicted felons, they were transported. The vast majority, though, emigrated in the pursuit of opportunity. The receiving countries, recognising the benefits of this movement, also introduced further inducements to encourage the movement that was critical to their growth and development.

The barque Henry Tanner was a brand new ship, having been built at Sunderland in 1834. She departed England bound for New South Wales on 1st July 1834. Sentenced to 14 years transportation at Oxford 1.3.1834 for stealing a coat.

Note: George Robert Blinkco, a Farm Labourer age 19 from Swaffham Prior in Cambridge, arrives in Sydney. Although George stated he had no relatives, we do know that his sister Ann and her family had arrived in South Australia in 1853. The emigrant ship Morayshire arrived in Port Jackson, Sydney, New South Wales, on January 19, 1856. It had departed from Southampton, England, on October 9, 1855, carrying assisted immigrants to Australia.
